Sequatchie County Court Calendars Explained
A court calendar lists hearings, docket calls, trials, and other settings. Sequatchie County keeps several of them. Its courts have separate duties and separate record keepers. Karen L. Millsaps, Circuit Court Clerk, is the first contact for Circuit matters. The Clerk and Master handles Chancery. General Sessions and Juvenile matters run through their own office. Ordinance cases begin with Dunlap City Court. The court named on a summons, citation, pleading, or prior order is the best routing clue.
No live public Sequatchie County court calendar exists in the county or state systems. Tennessee Public Court Records, also called TnCrtInfo, offers trial-court searching for participating offices. Sequatchie does not appear in its office selector. That gap does not mean your setting is missing. It means practical sources. The local clerk, the counter, and any docket sheet the court provides carry the current date.
Sequatchie County Non-Jury Calendar
The District 12 local rules publish recurring Circuit civil non-jury days by part. Part I uses the fourth Monday of February, the fourth Monday of May following Grand Jury, the third Thursday of August, and the third Tuesday of November. Part II uses the fourth Thursday of March, June, and December, plus the fourth Monday of September following Grand Jury. Part III uses the third Thursday of April, July, and October, plus the fourth Monday of January following Grand Jury.
These dates organize the court's work. They are not promises about your case. A matter may need a separate order, notice, or clerk confirmation before landing on one of those days. The rules themselves advise checking with local clerks because settings can change. Match your assigned part. Check the current docket entry instead of assuming a hearing from the recurring schedule alone.
Non-jury day A calendar day for civil matters a judge hears without a jury.
Docket call A scheduled review of cases and their status, not automatically the trial of each listed case.
Setting A date and time assigned for a stated court event.
Finding Your Court Date
Work from the latest case papers and the court that issued them. A full case number helps the clerk move faster. No number? Give the party name and an approximate filing year. Add the type of matter and any judge or lawyer named on the notice. Ask for the present setting and any reset history. Do not rely on the first date on older paper.
- Read the court name, case number, and case type from the newest notice, citation, or order.
- Check TnCrtInfo only as a participation check; it did not expose a Sequatchie office in the inspected selector.
- Call Circuit at (423) 949-2618, Chancery at (423) 949-3670, Sessions at (423) 949-4159, or Dunlap City Court at (423) 949-3319, as the named court requires.
- Ask whether the counter has a current printed docket, docket sheet, or public terminal and whether a written request is needed.
- Compare the latest clerk response with the notice from counsel, then confirm the date, time, setting type, and location shortly before appearing.
In person, Circuit records sit at 351 Fredonia Road, Suite B. Chancery matters route to 22 Cherry Street. Dunlap City Court meets at 119 Church Street. A written request should name the court and the case number. It should also give the setting date you want. Say whether you need current or historical reset information. Get a time and fee estimate before ordering copies. The clerk does not advertise courthouse posting or a public terminal. Ask whether either is offered.
Sequatchie County Chancery Calendar
District 12 rules set the Sequatchie County Chancery docket call. It falls on the first Wednesday of June and December at 1:00 p.m. One limit matters here. Only uncontested cases are heard after docket call. That rule bends only with prior permission from the court. Docket call sorts out status, readiness, and scheduling. It is not an automatic merits hearing for every case on the list.
Quick distinction: a recurring Chancery docket-call date is a court-wide practice, while an individual setting notice applies to one case.
Call the Clerk and Master at (423) 949-3670. Ask whether a Chancery case is on the call and what will occur. Official directories disagree about who currently holds that office. Verify the contact before sending case data. Approval for electronic filing and a live public calendar are two different things. The AOC annual report listed Sequatchie Chancery as approved but not implemented at that report date.
How to Read a Court Setting
A useful setting record ties a date to a specific case, court, and purpose. Capture the whole row or ask the clerk to read each field. A date alone cannot show the event type. Is it a docket call, pretrial conference, motion hearing, arraignment, or trial? The latest docket may also reveal that an older date was continued or canceled.
| Case number | The court identifier that connects the setting to the correct file. |
|---|---|
| Date | The scheduled day shown on the latest setting entry or notice. |
| Time | The stated start time, which may be a group docket call rather than an individual hearing time. |
| Courtroom | The room or building for this event; county, justice-center, and city venues are not interchangeable. |
| Judge or part | The assigned judicial officer or Circuit part used to organize the calendar. |
| Setting type | The purpose, such as arraignment, pretrial, motion hearing, non-jury hearing, docket call, or trial. |
| Status note | Any reset, continuance, cancellation, or replacement date shown in the record. |
Sequatchie County City Court Pattern
Dunlap publishes the clearest recurring municipal schedule in the county. The official Dunlap residents page lists City Court on the second Tuesday each month at 5:00 p.m. and the fourth Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Justice Center, 119 Church Street. Those recurring times show the ordinary city-court pattern. They do not prove that one citation remains set.
That same city page also lays out Dunlap's court schedule and payment instructions for anyone with a citation to resolve.
Public schedule pages do not amount to a live docket. A call to (423) 949-3319 is still the surest way to confirm a city matter. Make it before you show up. Officials disagree on the clerk's name, though the phone and location match across sources. If your citation names General Sessions, take it to the Sessions office instead. The charging paper tells you which door to use.
Continuances, Resets, and Cancellations
Docket entries have their own vocabulary. A continuance moves a matter to a new date. A reset is the replacement setting that follows. A cancellation takes the event off the calendar. It does not dismiss the case by itself. The docket may keep the old setting and add a later entry, so read entries in date order. Ask which one controls now. Never let an oral expectation or a stale notice outweigh a filed order or the clerk's latest record.
If a court date seems to have moved, call the named clerk. Ask for the newest setting entry plus the prior continuance or reset entry. Then check with counsel if you have a lawyer. Disappearing from an online result does not prove cancellation. No public Sequatchie trial calendar exists to settle the question. Tennessee Rule of Civil Procedure 40 and District 12 practice govern civil settings. But the assigned court decides the status of a specific case.
Sequatchie County Court Date Locations
Sequatchie County splits its court business across buildings. A right date and wrong address is an easy mistake. Circuit Court records and clerk service sit at the Justice Center, 351 Fredonia Road, Suite B. The Chancery and courthouse route is 22 Cherry Street. Dunlap City Court meets at the Justice Center, 119 Church Street. General Sessions judge-office information lists 109 East Cherry Street. The records counter and hearing venue are best confirmed by phone.
| Court route | Calendar contact | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Circuit Court | (423) 949-2618 | Part, setting type, date, and Justice Center location |
| Chancery Court | (423) 949-3670 | Docket-call status, permission, time, and courthouse room |
| General Sessions | (423) 949-4159 | Current lower-court setting and hearing venue |
| Dunlap City Court | (423) 949-3319 | Case-specific date despite the monthly published pattern |
The AOC courthouse locator offers one more official way to verify which court sits where. Its Sequatchie listing appears through the Tennessee courthouse locator, which shows the court identity and address.
Treat the locator as orientation, not a live court-date list. Pair it with a direct call to the clerk and the latest case notice.
Sequatchie County Rule Dates Versus Notices
A rule date and a case notice answer different questions. The rule date says when a type of work usually lands on a calendar. The notice says when your named case is actually set. The split matters in Sequatchie County. The county has recurring District 12 dates but no live countywide calendar. Even the published Chancery call has limits on contested matters. Use the rule to read the pattern. Then confirm the real setting through the docket and the clerk.
The statewide portals deserve the same caution. TnCrtInfo leaves Sequatchie out of its trial-court office selector. Public Case History covers appellate courts only. The AOC says it runs through the prior business day. Neither replaces the originating trial clerk. Once a trial case becomes an appeal, the appellate portal helps after the appeal is docketed. But the trial clerk still keeps the underlying local record.
If You Miss a Court Setting
Act fast. Call the clerk for the court named on the case and ask what the docket shows now. Give the case number and the missed date. If you have a lawyer, call that office too. Ask whether the judge entered an order, issued a new setting, or took other action. The clerk can report the record and explain office process, but cannot advise you on undoing the consequences.
Missed a setting? A missed appearance can produce serious case consequences, including a failure-to-appear entry in a criminal matter.
Contact the correct clerk and your lawyer at once, verify the docket status, and obtain the next lawful step before going to a courtroom.
Start with the right office. A city citation belongs to Dunlap City Court, and a Sessions case to the Sessions office. Circuit matters go to Karen L. Millsaps's office. Chancery matters go to the Clerk and Master. If the date cannot be confirmed online, that is normal here. The fuller Sequatchie County case lookup process can help identify which case record and clerk to check.
