Access Sequatchie County Civil Dockets

Start your Sequatchie County civil docket search by figuring out which court opened the case: Circuit, Chancery, or General Sessions. The clerk for that court keeps the docket, so a call or visit there is the fastest route. No single public portal pulls together every local trial record. Bring a case number or a filing date range, and say plainly what you want copies of. A statewide appellate search becomes useful only after an appeal is under way; until then, the Sequatchie County court where the case was filed is the place for the trial docket and official copies. The Sequatchie County civil docket itself lists each pleading, motion, order, and judgment with its date, so knowing the forum first saves you a trip to the wrong counter.

Sequatchie Civil Codes 77A1 and 77A2

The AOC civil reporting manual splits local filings into two routes. Location code 77A1 points to Circuit Court. It sits at 351 Fredonia Road, Suite B. Code 77A2 points to Chancery Court at 22 Cherry Street. That split matters when you ask for help. A vague request for a county civil case can land at the wrong counter. Cite the code that matches your court.

77A2 ChanceryClerk and MasterEquity, chancery, probate, estate, and related matters
General SessionsSessions clerk routeLower-level civil matters within that court's authority

Who holds the Chancery office? The AOC directory lists Jared Smith as Clerk and Master. The county directory still names Sherry Brock. It shows the same phone and address. Call (423) 949-3670 and confirm the current officeholder before you mail anything. For Circuit, the clerk profile lists Millsaps at (423) 949-2618.

Inside a Sequatchie County Civil Docket

Each civil docket entry carries the forum. It also lists the filing date, case category, parties by role, and the judge or part. It then logs the dated chain of events in the case. A complaint or petition may appear. So may service returns, an answer, motions, notices, settings, continuances, orders, judgment, costs, and appeal links. The county offers no live party-level display of these fields. So do not assume every detail is visible online.

Case HeaderCase number, filing date, court, location code, category, caption, judge, and status.
Parties and ServicePublic party roles, attorneys where shown, summons, service, and return entries.
FilingsComplaint or petition, answer, motion, notice, exhibit reference, and filing date.
SettingsDate, time, court part, judge, setting type, continuance, or reset.
OutcomeOrder, judgment, dismissal, nonsuit, transfer, costs, disposition, or appeal reference.

A docket printout shows that an event was entered. It does not show the full terms of the filed paper. If the wording of an order or judgment matters, request the signed document itself. A certified copy adds another layer. The clerk authenticates it. An ordinary printout gets no such treatment.

Sequatchie Civil Filings by the Numbers

Sequatchie Circuit logged 165 civil filings in the official FY 2024–25 report. Residential parenting and child support led the categories at 40. Divorce without minor children followed at 34. Damages and torts came in at 18, tied with divorce involving minor children at 18. Miscellaneous general civil accounted for 14, and contract, debt, or specific performance for 13. The report also counted six protection orders and four interstate support matters. Three administrative appeals and smaller categories rounded it out.

These figures cover one official reporting period. They are not a live pending count, a party list, or a forecast of outcomes. A category showing zero does not mean another court holds no related record. Chancery, for example, may still have one. The real lesson is simpler. Identify the right court and custodian before you draw conclusions from the numbers.

Civil Case Types on the Docket

The Sequatchie Circuit report reaches well beyond contract suits. Its taxonomy covers domestic, tort, protection, support, and other case groups. Chancery and Sessions add more still. In short, a civil docket is a family of registers, not one unified list.

  • Contracts, debt claims, specific performance, damages, and torts
  • Divorce, parenting, child support, paternity, and interstate support
  • Protection orders, adoption, surrender, and guardianship categories
  • Administrative appeals and other general civil matters
  • Chancery, probate, estate, equity, and Sessions civil files held through separate routes

Case category does not settle public access to every document. Domestic, adoption, guardianship, protection-order, financial, and medical files may contain sealed or restricted portions even when some docket entries stay open. Ask for the public part of the file. Do not assume the whole case can be copied.

Missing Sequatchie Probate Docket Files

A probate or estate record missing from the Circuit counter may sit elsewhere. The Clerk and Master may hold it instead. Sequatchie Chancery uses location code 77A2 and sits at 22 Cherry Street, P.O. Box 1651, Dunlap, TN 37327. The AOC lists Jared Smith as the contact at (423) 949-3670. The county directory still carries an older, conflicting name, so confirm who holds the office. A quick call settles it.

  1. Check whether the case paper says Circuit, Chancery, probate, or estate.
  2. Call the Clerk and Master and verify the current custodian before mailing.
  3. Provide the case number, category, caption, year, and exact entry or document.
  4. Ask about inspection, a public terminal, delivery choices, and current fees.

A zero in the Circuit report's probate or trust category can mislead. It does not mean no local probate record exists. That report counts Circuit filings only, and Chancery custody is a separate source. If one office redirects you, keep the response on hand. Then send the same narrow request to the office it named.

Civil Docket Settings and Hearings

District 12 local rules set a predictable rhythm for civil settings across the year. Circuit Part I takes non-jury days in February, May, August, and November. Part II works March, June, September, and December. Part III rounds out January, April, July, and October. Treat those months as a planning aid only. The notice for your individual setting still controls the practical search of a Sequatchie County court docket. A case can sit on a rule calendar. It may never be reached on the listed day.

Sequatchie Chancery docket call lands on the first Wednesday of June and December. It starts at 1:00 p.m. Under the local rules, only uncontested cases move forward after docket call without prior permission. A docket call simply reviews what is on the calendar. It is not a final trial date. And a "non-jury day" entry says nothing about whether a matter is ready for judgment.

Confirm the newest setting with the clerk shortly before you appear. A continuance or reset changes the date. It does not end the case. The Sequatchie County court dates resource helps here by separating recurring rule calendars from current case-specific settings. That separation lets you tell a standing date from a real hearing.

Sequatchie Civil Portal Gap

TnCrtInfo asks for a party name, case year, number, type, and court-office selection, plus a challenge before it will search, and it caps the rows it returns. None of that makes it a Sequatchie portal. The county was missing from the selector, even though the form offered a civil checkbox, so a Sequatchie County civil docket search cannot be narrowed there.

No result is not no case. Search by the originating court, then contact its clerk with a narrow set of facts. Internal TnCIS use does not guarantee anonymous web access.

An AOC technology assessment names Sequatchie Circuit, Sessions, Juvenile, and Chancery as TnCIS users. A separate annual report listed Sequatchie Chancery e-filing as approved. It was not implemented at that time. Remember that a clerk's internal case system, attorney e-filing, electronic service, and a public docket search are four different services. One court can use TnCIS. That does not mean the county offers an online court docket for the public.

Civil Docket Access Rules

Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 34 sets the baseline for public access to court records. It also bows to statutory, rule-based, and court-ordered restrictions. Tennessee Code Annotated sections 10-7-503 and 10-7-504 supply the inspection framework and the confidential categories the rule references.

Request the public portion: identify the court, case number, date range, and exact docket sheet, pleading, order, or judgment. State whether a plain or certified copy is wanted. Ask what rule or order controls any withheld material.

Official Public Records Act guidance explains that a custodian needs enough detail to identify the record and need not create a new report from an overbroad request.

No official Sequatchie price list covers plain copies, certified copies, searches, or electronic documents. Ask the clerk for the written policy, the current fee, accepted payment methods, and a completion estimate. State manual fee lines are not a Sequatchie counter quote for court records.

Sequatchie Civil Appeals Change Systems

A civil appeal starts with the trial court record. It only later picks up an appellate case number once it is docketed. For the originating register and certified trial material, the Circuit Clerk or Clerk and Master stays the source. Once the appeal is active, Tennessee Public Case History covers the Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, Court of Criminal Appeals, and the appellate clerk.

The appellate portal lets you search by case number, case style, party name, or organization. AOC says covered motions, orders, judgments, and opinions reach back only after stated historical dates. The information runs through the close of the prior business day. That makes it a distinct docket search. It will not pull every Sequatchie trial pleading. When you ask for both halves of the record, match the appellate number to the trial number. That way nothing gets lost between courts.
